Hostel Wunderbar – Welcome to a different pace of life.

Our wonderful hotel is our livelihood and our home and we consider ourselves very lucky to be able to share our beautiful surroundings with our guests. The Rio Pina winds its way through our property on its way to the sea and the palm trees and vegetation along the banks are teaming with wildlife including monkeys, frogs, geckos, butterflies, fruit bats and tropical birds. We are also only 200 meters from the sea where you can catch a water taxi and explore one of the twelve beautiful Caribbean islands close by.

Below is some important information about our amenities on site, but if you cannot find the answer to your question, please call or email us.

Food and Drink

We have breakfasts and some pre-packaged goods available for sale. Please speak to a member of staff for what is currently available.

We have 2 local shops very close to us which both sell basic food that you can prepare in our fully equipped kitchen. A larger supermarket is about 5km away and Sabonitas has a very large Rey supermarket. Our fruit and vegetables are brought fresh to our door 3 or 4 times a week on a truck. You can hear them shouting out what they have through a loud speaker – stand at the front of the hostel and buy it as fresh as it comes!

Opening Times

For your safety we lock our outside gate at 9pm. If you know you will be later please let us know.

Cash and ATMs

There is an ATM in Portobelo, but there’s only one and quite often it’s out of service. It’s a good idea to get the cash you need as you pass through Sabanitas (about 45km from us).

Parking

We offer off street parking for up to 7 cars.

Internet

At this time we do not have internet service at Hostel Wunderbar. However, the cafe in the local dive cafe has excellent internet and is about 200 meters away. Grab a coffee and watch the sea birds play over the bay as you check your mail.

Security Lockers

We provide security lockers at no additional charge. Please bring a padlock with you.

Laundry Service

Hostel Wunderbar can offer a laundry service at $5 a bag. Please speak to a member of staff for details. (NOTE: laundry service can be affected by water availability and may not always be available).

Fitness Equipment

If you feel like you’re not getting enough exercise snorkeling in the crystal clear waters or hiking the lush green jungle trails, you can always hop on the gym equipment we keep on our large tiled and covered terrace. While we offer this for your benefit, all use of the machines is done so at your own risk and we cannot offer any advice on your health and fitness program.

Water

Panama gets a large amount of natural rain fall and we turn this to our advantage and collect, filter and then use this everywhere on our property from drinking water to washing water. We have 2 wells and filtration systems which means our water is always fresh, clean and fine to drink.

This does mean that our water supply has a direct link to our rain fall and it can get quite low. We ask all our guests to be aware of this when using water and only use what you need.
